It was demolished 40 years ago but the subtle beauty of the old Lewis High School building makes one think about what a gem it would be in the heart of downtown Southington had the town or a developer invested the time and money to refurbish it. After its removal in September 1967, the site was integrated into the adjoining municipal parking lot and was later considered for a new police station. Eventually built on the spot was Lincoln-Lewis Terrace, an apartment complex run by the Southington Housing Authority.

I went to grammar school at the old Lewis School, many years ago. I can still picture the inside of the school. I remember a room off of a classroom where the safety patrol would meet - a room with no windows.
