ANNA MILEY
-
Anna Miley began her career as an English teacher at Southington High School in 1962 and became one of the school's most respected and popular faculty members. The first to teach Communications as part of the English curriculum, she became faculty advisor to The Emblem in 1967, succeeding Math teacher Elizabeth Shorey. During her years as advisor, the staffs were regularly recognized for their budding journalistic skills and she oversaw production of the newspaper during arguably its most successful years. Many of her former students, citing her as a mentor, pursued careers in journalism, broadcasting and writing. Mrs. Miley retired from SHS in 1984, handing over The Emblem to fellow English teacher Mary Dapkins. She died in 2001 at the age of 77.

Great memories of Mrs. Miley and her knowing smile keeping us in line in the "upper room" Emblem office in the old SHS. Hand-drawn art-work and mimeograph machines. She taught classic journalism - who, what, when, where, how...
Thanks for remembering her.

Yes, great memories! Sorry to hear Mrs. Miley has been gone for so many years. It is easy to lose touch living in Colorado. Betty (Ruth) Clark Emblem Art Editor 1968-1969
