Today would have been the 60th birthday of Christopher Cronkhite, Southington's first casualty of the Vietnam War?

Christopher Cronkhite was born in Bristol on September 19, 1947 and attended Southington schools. A 1965 graduate of SHS - seen at left in his senior yearbook photo - he died under hostile fire in South Vietnam at age 19 on April 10, 1967. He was a Marine Private First Class and was the first of the nine soldiers from Southington killed in the conflict between 1967 and 1969. Christopher was laid to rest in St. Thomas Cemetery.
