Betty Small dies; daughter
of Vo-Ag facility namesake

Elizabeth C. "Betty" Small, the only child of Lewis High School teacher Carl M. Small and his wife, Elsie, died Oct. 4 at the age of 79.

Her late father has been the namesake of the Vocational-Agriculture facility at Southington High since it was constructed in the early 1960s.

Ms. Small grew up in Southington and was a graduate of Lewis High School. She taught at the Greenwood School in Maryland and Ashley Hall in South Carolina and for 21 years was Teacher of English and Director of Dramatics at Northfield School for Girls in Northfield, Mass. She retired in 1974 and returned home to Southington to care for her elderly mother.

Ms. Small had lived at an assisted living facility in Hartford since 1993 and was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
