OBITUARY
JOSEPH SOLLACK,
RETIRED POLICE CHIEF
-
Retired Southington police chief and Lewis High School graduate Joseph A. Sollack died Tuesday, one week shy of his 87th birthday.
-
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Chief Sollack began his career with the Southington Police Department in 1950 when he was appointed a supernumerary officer. In 1962 he was promoted to sergeant and seven years later was named a lieutenant. In 1978 he became a captain, one year before succeeding G. Robert Triano as chief of police. He retired in 1983.
-
Chief Sollack was also active in local politics. He was a longtime member of the Democratic Town Committee and served on the Board of Police Commissioners from 2001 to 2004.
-
Chief Sollack's passing leaves the town with one surviving retired police chief, William Perry. He was predeceased by chiefs Edward Geary, Triano and Philip D'Agostino. All, coincidentally, are buried in St. Thomas Cemetery.
-
Chief Sollack died at the Southington Care Center. He would have turned 87 years old next Tuesday. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday (tomorrow) at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
