Robert Galati's nine weeks on the Board of Education will be the shortest in Southington history?
-
Galati officially succeeded Zaya Oshana last week and will fill the remainder of his ter
m that ends in November. While Galati is on the Democratic ticket in the fall election and is seeking a term in his own right, his tenure will be the shortest by far in the history of the school board should he lose. Holding the record previously was Elaine Bedard, current Democratic party chairperson, who filled the vacancy left with the resignation of Robert Izzo in March 1985. Bedard had no intention of seeking a term that fall and her eight months on the board broke a record set by...Robert Izzo, who was elected in November 1983 and resigned 15 months later (the shortest term outside of those who commonly served one-year terms prior to the 1940s.) Izzo unsuccessfully tried to return to the board in 1999.
