Retired SHS teacher and assistant principal Frances E. D'Angelo was the first female to serve on the Southington Town Council?
-
A Democrat, she was first elected in the fall of 1971, five years after the council/manager form of government was initiated in town. D'Angelo served two terms, stepping down in 1975. She would stay politically active behind the scenes for years to follow. D'Angelo was appointed an assistant principal at SHS in the late '70s, at which point she left her position as an English teacher. The sister of current town council member Anthony D'Angelo, she retired a little over five years ago.

Wow did that face make my heart sink!! I guess in hindsight it was the "troublemaker vs. vice principal" thing, but God I hated Miss D'Angelo in high school. I have spoken to her since and of course isn't as evil as I made her out to be, but boy the memory of some people will always be with you, for better or worse. No hard feelings, Franny!
D'Angelo was a nightmare. let's just leave it at that.
She was a tough broad but had to be. I had my fair share of times in her office but looking back 15 years, she only acted how she felt she had to.
She was neither fair or kind. She is one of those women who attain a position of power and then beat everyone over the head with it. Students, parents and teachers thought so. Good riddance, hopefully they replaced you with someone competent.
Thanks to her I could be an exchange student at Southington High and be a part of class of 98... It was one of the best times in my life!!!

Does anyone here remember the name of a Physics teacher back around '76 or '77? His last name began with a "P" and I think it was a Polish name. He gave me some great career advice one time telling me that I'd never make it in any of the Science fields. I'd like to contact him just to let him know how wrong he was. He's probably dead but its worth a shot.
