Four English teachers among SHS retirees
-
The Southington High School English Department is losing three of its teachers and its department chairperson to retirement today as the school year comes to a close.
-
Carole Alberti (seen at right), who has headed the SHS English Department since the early 1990s, is retiring after more than 40 years in education. Also marking their last day at SHS today are her English Department colleagues Dorothy Harrington, Eleanor Walsh and Mary Dapkins. (Dapkins served as faculty advisor to The Emblem from 1984 to 1990). Business teacher Barbara Newsheller is also retiring after more than 25 years at the high school.
-
Art teacher Judy Delahunty, who came to SHS from John F. Kennedy Junior High School in 1994 as part of the grade reorganization, retired earlier this year, as did veteran Health teacher Patricia Harding.
-
The 34th commencement ceremony to take place at the Pleasant Street high school will kick off at 5:30 p.m. It is the first graduation program since Dr. Joseph Erardi was appointed superintendent of schools and Brian Goralski was named chairman of the Southington Board of Education.
