Remembering...

LAWRENCE MUCCI
-
We reintroduce "Remembering" this week, a feature that puts the spotlight on your memories of standout members of the Lewis and Southington High School faculty. Last year we recollected time spent with English teachers Carol Cope (see our Feb. 21, 2008 posting) and Edward Feeney (April 28, 2008). We hope this time around to keep “Remembering” on a regular schedule, kicking it off with late Math teacher Lawrence Mucci.

Lawrence Mucci was a mathematics teacher and department chairman at Southington High School for many years. He spent his entire teaching career in Southington, which he began at the former Lewis High School in the fall of 1942. His career was interrupted shortly after when he was called into service in World War II, where he served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army. Mr. Mucci took the role of director of the Continuing Education program sometime after Lewis High School became Southington High School and relocated to Main Street in 1950. He would hold the post until 1974. In 1969, he became chairman of the SHS mathematics department. Mr. Mucci, remembered for his personable style, retired in 1977 and is one of the few teachers to have taught at Lewis and both the Main Street and Pleasant Street high schools. Mr. Mucci died at age 78 in September 1999.
