Q: I noticed some time back that a new tree has been planted outside Southington High, next to the main driveway. Was it planted just for aesthetics or is it in memory of someone? -Jack K.
-A: The maple tree, which was planted just next to the maple that honors late history teacher Phil Goodrow just east of the main entrance, is in memory of late school nurse Sally Visockis. Mrs. Visockis was head nurse at the high school until 1998 when she went to work at St. Thomas School. She died a year later after a long battle with cancer. A plaque was installed at the base of the tree earlier this year recognizing the dedication, which was initiated by the Southington School Nurses Association.
