WEICHSEL MAKES IT OFFICIAL
Nearly 44 years to the day Southington voters ushered in the council/manager form of government, John Weichsel, the only town manager Southington has ever had, has announced he will retire next year.
-
Weichsel made it known yesterday at a Town Hall press conference that he will step down in early 2011, setting in stone a retirement date that many in the press, political circles and even average citizens have speculated on for the better part of two decades.
-
Weichsel was hired by the first Town Council, which was elected on June 6, 1966. He began his career in Southington that fall, unseating the board of selectmen as the chief municipal administrators.
-
Weichsel is one of the longest-serving municipal managers (to have remained in one community) in the country.
