Kathleen McGrath, the principal of Southington High School for eight years and a member of the staff for more than three decades, is among five members of the faculty retiring at the end of this school year.

Following a stint as a substitute teacher at Wilby High School in Waterbury, McGrath joined the SHS English department in 1979. She later became the assistant department chairperson and in 1994 was named the high school's third assistant principal when the ninth grade wing opened. Eight years later she succeeded principal Jerome Auclair when he left after nearly 15 years to become principal of Darien High School.

Also wrapping up their careers at Southington High at the end of the month are veteran Technology Education department chairman John Ellsworth, World Language department chair Mary Perlot, English teacher Marilyn Messina and Family & Consumer Science teacher Rosalind Diemand.
