Well, Since You've Asked...

We introduce today our new feature, "Well, Since You've Asked...," in which we answer questions pertaining to Lewis or Southington High from our site visitors, ones that come via e-mail or while we're out in the community. Sometimes we expect our contributors to know the answers; other times we'll simply make a call and get you an answer. Our first question came in an e-mail from a 1985 SHS grad.

Q: I haven't been home in a few years (and haven't driven past SHS in even longer) and was wondering if the tree planted by the Class of 1985 in memory of Mr. Goodrow is still there. - - -Mike

A: Indeed it is.
It may look younger than 22 years old though. That's because the original tree died and (after a notable gap of time) a new maple was planted near the end of the 1997 school year. An accompanying plaque is located at the base of the tree noting the memorial. The tree was planted outside Philip Goodrow's former classroom after the popular Social Studies teacher died suddenly in March 1985 at the age of 60.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this blog and was enjoying reading the various posts. How nice to see picture of my dad and to see that he is still remembered.
